Rented canoe trips begin at Hudson Mills Metropark Park or Dexter–Huron Metroparks and finish at Delhi Metropark. A deposit is required. There’s a lot to take in as you explore beautiful Kent Lake and surrounding islands and tributaries at Kensington Metropark. Paddle across Kent Lake or take a tranquil trip kayaking along the Huron River to see wildlife and waterfowl. While canoes are not rented onsite, Heavner’s Canoe and Kayak will bring canoes to the Metropark for group rental by calling 248-685-2379. Kayaks are rented at the boat rental. Maps for trips along the Huron River are available at the Metropark office. Canoe into camp for an overnight excursion with advance reservation. Explore a new route every time you canoe or kayak at Lake Erie Metropark. Paddle along coastal wetlands, river backwaters and downstream along Lake Erie. Take in the magnificence of a bald eagle flying above as you coast along the water’s surface. Rest amidst the wetlands and observe exceptional vistas of great blue herons, long-billed marsh wrens and other waterfowl wading in the water. Travel past areas not easily accessed by foot as you observe an area teeming with wildlife. The canoe and kayak launch is located near Cove Picnic Point.

Bring a canoe or kayak to paddle along the scenic Huron River at Lower Huron Metropark. Glide past sycamore and cottonwood tree-lined shores: you might even see a muskrat, turtles or ducks. Group camp is available for overnight trips with a written permit. Canoe maps are available at the park office. Contact the park office at (734) 697-9181 for additional information.
Ply the backwaters of the Huron River along the one-mile canoe trail, among the islands and past scenic shorelines where you might spot ducks, muskrats, swans, mink or white-tailed deer.
