METROPARKS TREAT KIDS WITH HALLOWEEN FUN

Mark your calendars now for family-oriented fun this Halloween season at the Metroparks:

“Make a Spooky Gingerbread House,” Saturday, October 4 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Wolcott Mill Metropark Farm Center near Ray Township. Decorate your own Halloween gingerbread house to take home. Fee: $6 per person. Pre-registration required.

“Haunting Halloween,” Friday and Saturday, October 10 and 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Historic Center of Wolcott Mill Metropark in Ray Township. Enjoy eerie activities, including a slightly haunted barn, a visit with the miller’s ghost, a straw tunnel, a computerized music and light show, spooky crafts, and cider and donuts at the bonfire. Fee: $2 adults, $5 children up to 16 years. Pre-registration is not required. A special session for scout groups will be held on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; pre-registration and pre-payment required. Fee: $2 adults, $5 children up to 16 years. “Kids’ Kandy ’n’ Krafts,” Saturday, October 11, at 6 p.m., Nature Center of Oakwoods Metropark near Flat Rock. Children should wear their costumes and join the fun for candy, crafts, and a few surprises. Fee: $4 per child, pre-registration required. “Gingerbread Haunted House,” Sunday, October 12 at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Wolcott Mill Metropark Historic Center in Ray Township. Spooky images invade the mill as visitors design, build, and decorate their own special Halloween decoration. Fee: $5 per house, pre-registration required. For more information, call 586-749-5997.

“Little Kids’ Halloween,” Saturday, October 18 at 1 p.m., Nature Center of Indian Springs Metropark in White Lake. It’s a Halloween bash for children in the third grade and younger. Wear your costume and experience a haunted forest, a scavenger hunt, crafts, goodies and other spooky activities. Fee: $5 per child. Pre-registration and pre-payment required. “Farm Halloween,” Sunday, October 19, noon to 3 p.m., Farm Center of Wolcott Mill Metropark in Ray Township. Make a craft, try the relay races or the pumpkin drop, and go on a wagon ride for an afternoon of fun on the farm. Fee: $4 per person. For more information call 586-752-5932.

“Fun on the Farm - Halloween Party,” Thursday, October 23 at 10 a.m., Farm Center of Kensington Metropark in Brighton/Milford. Dress up in your favorite farm animal costume and join us for fun and games and a hayride. Fee: $5 per child, includes a hayride and pumpkin. Pre-registration required. “Tricks & Treats with Trolls,” vFriday, October 24, 7 p.m., at the Nature Center of Metro Beach Metropark near Mt. Clemens. Visit trick or treat “discovery stations” to search for signs and clues of trolls and other Halloween creatures of the night. The journey ends at the campfire with cider and donuts. For children ages 7 and older, accompanied by an adult; no younger siblings. Fee: $4 per child. Pre-registration required. For more information or to register, call 586-463-4332.

“Evening Lantern Tours,” Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25, 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., Nature Center of Oakwoods Metropark near Flat Rock. Tickets: $5 per person, advance ticket sales only. For more information or to purchase tickets, call Oakwoods Nature Center at 734-782-3956 or 1-800-477-3182.

“Trick-or-Treat at the Farm,” Saturday, October 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Farm Center at Wolcott Mill Metropark in Ray Township. Dress in your favorite Halloween costume to trick-or-treat at the farm. Stop at each of the farm buildings and wander through the slightly haunted “Boo Barn” to collect treats, and scramble for candy hidden in a pile of straw. After collecting your treats, watch a Halloween movie with cider and donuts. Fee: $5 per child. Pumpkins will be available for sale. For more information, call 586-752-5932.

“Naturally it’s Howl’Oween,” Saturday, October 25 at 1 p.m., Nature Center of Stony Creek Metropark, near Rochester/Utica. Wear your costume and enjoy an afternoon of games and crafts and an opportunity to learn about and see some of Halloween’s spookiest live owls and slithery snakes. Fee: $4 per child, $2 per adult. “Tots’ Halloween Fun” Sunday, October 26 at 1 p.m., Nature Center at Metro Beach Metropark near Mt. Clemens. Children, 3 – 6 years, accompanied by an adult will discover fun facts about pumpkins and Halloween through stories, activities and crafts. Snacks and cider will be part of the fun. “Boo at the Nature Zoo,” Thursday and Friday, October 30 and 31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Belle Isle Nature Zoo on Belle Isle. Enjoy two days of trick-or-treating with the animals of Belle Isle. Kids, wear your costumes and bring goody bags. Nature-themed Halloween treat stations, special ‘harvest’ deer encounters, pumpkin paths and cider and donuts are all part of the not-so-scary good fun at the Belle Isle Nature Zoo.
