PLAN YOUR NEXT PARTY OR BANQUET AT THE EVENT ROOM AT THE EDC, A BEAUTIFUL 200-CAPACITY ROOM OVERLOOKING THE POND

Indian Springs Metropark encompasses 2,215 acres of parkland at the headwaters of the Huron River, and is located nine miles northwest of Pontiac. Much of the park is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the natural environment. The park features an 18-hole regulation golf course,an Environmental Discovery Center, an underwater pond viewing room, a nature center, a paved hike-bike trail, hiking trails and picnic areas.

BIKING
An eight-mile, mostly flat, paved hike-bike trail, with one big hill, takes you through a heavily wooded area.


BIRDING
Visitors enjoy spotting a variety of birds including sandhill cranes, barred owls, red-shouldered hawks and Henslow's sparrows at Indian Springs Metropark. Nature interpreters maintain a park bird species list. Birding programs include a woodcock watch.


CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
Nearly 12 miles of groomed trails with varied terrain take you through deeply wooded areas.


ENVIRONMENTAL DISCOVERY CENTER
The Environmental Discovery Center features 60 acres of restored and created native ecosystems including ponds, wetlands and prairies. An underwater pond viewing room gives visitors a below-the-water view of pond life, including native Michigan fish and plants. A 20,000 square-foot building with classrooms, a biology lab, a 200-person event room and exhibit areas is the focal point of the EDC.

The EDC has received nine awards for its architecture, engineering and landscape design: American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Honor Award 2008; American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Ohio Chapter Design Concept Award, 2002; Midwest Region American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Technology Award, 2007; Detroit Chapter ASHRAE Technology Award, 2007; National ASHRAE Technology Award, 2008; Engineering Society of Detroit Construction and Design Award, 2008, Michigan Chapter American Institute of Architects, 2008; and Detroit Chapter American Institute of Architects, 2008.

GOLF
This 6,707 yard, par-71, 18-hole course with rolling fairways and undulating greens is one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in the area. Driving range and club rental available. HIKING
Six miles of trails meander through the wet woodlands, meadows and fields of the park's nature center area. Located at the headwaters of the Huron River and known as the Huron Swamp, it is one of the last great natural areas in southeast Michigan. A boardwalk leads hikers over a bog and to the secluded Timberland Lake. Trails begin at the nature center building. Flat terrain.

The eight-mile, paved hike-bike trail traverses the park's woods and open areas.



NATURE CENTER
Exhibits relating to the park and its wildlife may be viewed in the nature center building year round. Self-guided nature trails radiate from the building into adjacent woods, fields and swamp. School programs are available by appointment. Dogs and pets are not allowed in the nature study area or on the trails.


PICNICKING
Tables, grills, and two shelters are located at Meadowlark Picnic Area, which also features a volleyball court and horseshoe pits. Another shelter, with tables and a grill, is located near the nature center. Dogs are not allowed at the shelter near the nature center. Both shelters may be reserved by contacting the Indian Springs Environmental Discovery Center at Phone (248) 625-6640 or 1-800-477-3192.

SLEDDING

SPRAY 'n' PLAY
Adjacent to the Environmental Discovery Center, the Spray 'n' Play features three distinct play areas for older kids and a separate area just for toddlers. Youngsters can get soaked in the water spray area, climb a rock wall or a cargo net, or explore their way through a maze. The toddler area includes a painted labyrinth and a sand pit with ovrsized scoopers for digging. The Spray 'n' Play is open year round, with the water spray area open Memorial Day to Labor Day.


TOT LOT (barrier-free)
A wood playscape, with swings and slides, is located in Meadowlark Picnic Area.
