PARK AMENITIES
Make Oakwoods Metropark's wooded nature trails and picturesque view of the Huron River your destination for a family outing. The kids will rate the live turtles and snakes at the nature center "cool."

BIKING
A three-mile paved hike-bike trail is part of a 15-mile trail system through Lower Huron, Oakwoods and Willow Metroparks.


BIRDING
Nature interpreters maintain a bird species list. Birding programs, include a woodcock watch and bird counts, are held at the park.


FISHING
Anglers can fish from rowboats or canoes in the backwaters of the Huron River. Shoreline fishing is allowed in designated areas only.


HIKING
Five miles of trails along flat terrain provide hikers the shade and quiet of a mature hardwood forest, the sights and sounds of the Huron River, and the activity found along the "edge" between field and forest. A 700-foot, hard-surface trail is ideal for people with disabilities or those with baby strollers. All trails begin at the nature center building, maps available. HORSEBACK RIDING
A five-mile horse trail, open April through October, begins near the railroad track crossing. Release required in advance, available at Oakwoods Nature Center, Lower Huron Park Office or from any police officer.


NATURE CENTER
The nature center features seasonal exhibits, live turtles and snakes. Park interpreters host nature walks and interpretive programs, including programs aboard a 34-foot Voyageur canoe. Advance registration may be required for programs and the Voyageur Canoe.
