Mission Statement
The mission of the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority Police Department is to provide safe and secure facilities and recreational opportunities for the citizens we serve.
All members of our department are dedicated to providing the highest level of police service to our visitors and staff and are guided by the philosophies of outstanding customer service and community policing.
Message From Michael Reese, Chief of Police
Safety and security for people visiting the Metroparks and its recreational facilities and for those participating in its many recreational programs are of the utmost importance to the men and women of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks Police Department.
We will continue to balance safety with enjoyment. For most, the relatively minor safety risks are far outclassed by the benefits of experiencing a slice of nature in the Metroparks. I encourage you to discover the Huron-Clinton Metroparks and engage in the many events that we have to offer.

Police FAQ
How do I report an emergency or injury?
As with all Police Departments in the State of Michigan, the 911 emergency response system is the quickest route to emergency aid. Use of the 911 system is reserved to report a serious crime in progress or that has just occurred, or a life threatening situation such as a medical emergency, fire or car accident involving a personal injury. For all non-emergency situations contact the appropriate Park Office or facility.
How do I report information about a crime?
All crimes should be reported to the Metropark Police Department either by calling 911, contacting the appropriate Park Office or speaking directly to an officer on patrol.
How do I file a police report?
If you are in immediate danger call 911 or ask a nearby park patron or employee for help. If you are not in immediate danger but wish to report the incident, call the appropriate Park Office or come to the Park Office during their business hours. This should be done as soon as possible after the incident to preserve evidence.
How do I report trail hazards and damage?
All trail hazards can be reported to any park employee within the park or the local Park Office. Any life threatening hazard (down power line, sink hole on the trail etc.) should be reported through 911 or the appropriate Park Office.
Are fishing licenses required?
Yes, all state rules and regulations apply. Go to www.michigan.gov/dnr to view the Michigan Fishing Guide and obtain license and season information.
Is hunting allowed in the Metroparks?
Hunting and/or trapping is not permitted in any of the Metroparks.
Are snowmobiles/ORVs allowed in the Metroparks?
Snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles are prohibited in the Metroparks.
Do you have a lost and found?
Yes, we have lost and found department at the park offices. If you are seeking to register a lost item or check to see if an item has been found, contact the appropriate Park Office. If the wish to make a police report regarding a lost item; contact a police officer at the park that the item was lost at and set up a time/date to make your report. Reports are not taken over the phone.
How do I recover or claim property?
All stolen or lost property should be reported to the Metropark Police Department either at the appropriate Park Office or the nearest facility. At that time a report will be taken and if and when the property is recovered the owner will be notified. If you are seeking to pick up found or held property contact the Park Office to schedule a time to do so with the property officer. Property will only be released to the person who is named by the releasing officer. The individual must have identification at the time of release. If the person named is unavailable to pick up their property, they can name an alternate person to pick it up depending upon the circumstances.
How do I obtain a copy of a police report?

How do I get an impounded vehicle released?
All vehicles are towed by private tow companies to be kept in locked and secured facilities. Only the Metropark Police Department can release a vehicle once that vehicle has been towed. The owner must contact the local Park Office where the vehicle was towed from to obtain the proper release forms in order to pick up the vehicle.
Where must an individual pay traffic tickets?
Tickets must be paid either in person or by mail at the designated District Court. If you need court information, such as the address or phone number, refer to the citation itself or contact the appropriate Park Office to obtain that information.
Does the police department assist with keys locked in my car?
Yes, the Police Officers will assist you with a lockout within the park. You will be asked to sign a waiver. Contact the Park Office to request assistance.
What if I have a complaint against a police officer?
Make contact with the supervisor on duty at the designated park. If the supervisor is unable to resolve the matter to your satisfaction, you may file an official written complaint. Your complaint will be investigated, and you will be notified of the results of your complaint.

How to obtain a copy of a report/traffic accident reports:
Please call the park where your accident occurred to see if the report is completed and available. If available, copies of traffic accident reports can be purchased online at payments.clemis.org/extservices/. If you wish to receive a copy of the report by mail; mail your request with the report number, name of person involved, date and location of the incident, $5 money order or certified check and a self-addressed, business-size envelope to the attention of the Police Department at the appropriate park:

Incident Reports
Please contact the park that the incident occurred at to obtain the report and/or see if the report is completed and available. If you wish to receive a copy of the report by mail; mail your request with the report number, name of person involved, date and location of the incident, $5 money order or certified check and a self-addressed, business-size envelope to the attention of the Police Department at the appropriate park (see above).
Please note that a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request may be required to obtain copies of certain documents. Certain information, governed by state and federal privacy laws, is always removed from the report prior to copying. This may include, but is not limited to, phone numbers, witness information, suspect information (until a case is completely adjudicated), and medical data.

The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority Police Department employs full-time, part-time and seasonal Police Officers, as well as Provisional Service Attendants.

Full-Time Officers
80/80 Police Officer
Under the immediate supervision of the Chief of Police, District Lieutenant and Sergeant, work activities in this position primarily involve patrolling the Authority’s properties to prevent vandalism, fire, theft, and development of unsafe conditions; suppression of criminal activity involving the protection of life and property; enforcing laws and regulations of conduct affecting patrons and visitors; investigating crimes; apprehending those suspected of criminal action; and providing assistance, first aid, and information to park visitors. Will also perform ancillary operations, maintenance, public relations or naturalist duties as directed. Note: The successful candidates will be hired as a full-time officer and will be a certified Police Officer or certifiable Police Academy graduate in the State of Michigan. This is a full-time year round position.
Part-Time Officers – Year Round
40/80 Police Officer
Under the immediate supervision of the Chief of Police, District Lieutenant and Sergeant, work activities in this position primarily involve patrolling the Authority’s properties to prevent vandalism, fire, theft, and development of unsafe conditions; suppression of criminal activity involving the protection of life and property; enforcing laws and regulations of conduct affecting patrons and visitors; investigating crimes; apprehending those suspected of criminal action; and providing assistance, first aid, and information to park visitors. Will also perform ancillary operations, maintenance, public relations or naturalist duties as directed. Note: The successful candidates will be hired as seasonal employees and will be a certified Police Officer or certifiable Police Academy graduate in the State of Michigan. This is a part-time year round position.
Part-Time Officer – Seasonal
0/80 Police Officer
Under the immediate supervision of the Chief of Police, District Lieutenant and Sergeant, work activities in this position primarily involve patrolling the Authority’s properties to prevent vandalism, fire, theft, and development of unsafe conditions; suppression of criminal activity involving the protection of life and property; enforcing laws and regulations of conduct affecting patrons and visitors; investigating crimes; apprehending those suspected of criminal action; and providing assistance, first aid, and information to park visitors. Will also perform ancillary operations, maintenance, public relations or naturalist duties as directed. Note: The successful candidates will be hired as seasonal employees and will be a certified Police Officer or certifiable Police Academy graduate in the State of Michigan. This is a part-time seasonal position, which begins April 17 and ends October 15 of each year.
Public Service Attendant (PSA)
The Provisional Service Attendant (PSA) position is a part-time/seasonal position under the supervision of the Police Department. Work activities in this position primarily involve providing information to the public, the prevention of unsafe conditions and the assurance the park patrons adhere to rules and regulations.
SAFETY TIPS
Your safety when attending the Metroparks is of the utmost importance to us. You must always be aware of your surroundings. If faced with an emergency, immediately call 911. If you observe any Metropark employee, notify them of the situation as well and they will assist you with contacting a Metroparks Police Officer for help.
Below are just a few safety tips for consideration while you enjoy your Metroparks:
Personal Safety
- You should carry your cellphone in case of an emergency.
- Be aware of your surroundings: people, vehicles, location, landmarks, etc.
- Stay alert while you jog, walk or bicycle.
- If it is necessary to call for help, know your location (the area, road or major landmarks).
- While visiting the Metroparks have a friend with you or get with a group.
- Avoid isolated areas whenever possible and try to stay visible to the road especially if you are alone.
- Be observant. If you notice suspicious activity notify the Metroparks Police Department immediately.
Child Safety
Children love to play outdoors and it is easy for them, or a parent, to become distracted. It only takes a second for a child to wonder off and put their wellbeing in danger. The Metroparks Police Department suggest just a few tips you might consider so that everyone will have a safe and wonderful time while visiting the Metroparks.
- Never allow your child to be out of your sight by running off.
- Do not allow your child to approach an unknown person that you are unable to identify/know.
- Never allow your child to approach a stranger’s pet.
- Never allow your child to approach a stranger’s vehicle.
- Do not allow them to pick up random objects from the ground. This includes our wildlife.
- Make sure that they are aware of their surroundings at all times. As well, you should keep your eyes on them especially in the areas of pools, ballfields, trails, nature centers and so forth.
- Others are here to enjoy the Metroparks with you, so please be respectful of them.
- Be alert, make sure everyone watches out for vehicular traffic and bicycles.
Vehicle Safety
- Lock all valuables in the trunk before entering the park. And, remember to leave items that you will not be using at home.
- Before leaving your vehicle to enjoy the Metroparks, become familiar with your surroundings. If you notice any suspicious people, vehicles and/or activity notify a Metroparks Police Department or staff member of the Metroparks.
- Remember to lock your vehicle’s doors and roll your windows up so that access cannot be gained.
- Make sure you have your car keys in hand when returning to your vehicle.
- If you experience vehicle trouble, notify a Metroparks employee who will contact the Metroparks Police Department to assist you.
