Boost Your Health & Save Money—120 Minutes at a Time in the Metroparks!

Did you know if you spend at least 120 minutes a week in nature you could see benefits to your overall health and wellbeing? That’s less than 18 minutes a day! And don’t we know the perfect place to spend that time (wink, wink).

But here’s an extra perk – staying active in the Metroparks has been proven to save adults on average $1,250 a year in healthcare costs.

Not sure where to start? No worries! We’ve rounded up some of our favorite ways to stay active in the parks—even in chilly weather.

Hike, Bike, Walk & Stroll

Our Hike-Bike trails are plowed and salted all winter long, so you can keep moving no matter the season. After a big snowfall, it may take our team a little time to clear all paths, so we appreciate your patience!

Ditch the Gym for Our Fit Trails

Skip the treadmill and head to the Fit Trails at Kensington or Stony Creek Metropark. These outdoor fitness stations help you build cardio, core strength, balance, and flexibility. Bonus: the stations at Kensington Metropark are designed for accessible and assisted use!

Try Cross-Country Skiing

Want to get your heart pumping? If Mother Nature cooperates, you can explore cross-country ski trails at Hudson Mills, Indian Springs, Kensington, Lake Erie, Oakwoods, Stony Creek, and Willow Metroparks. Not enough snowfall? No problem—Huron Meadows Metropark makes its own snow for the 1.5-mile Bucks Run loop—perfect for beginners! Plus, affordable equipment rentals are available at the Huron Meadows Ski Center.

Turn Sledding into a Workout

Who says exercise has to be boring? Climbing back up the sledding hill is a serious leg workout! When conditions allow, enjoy sledding hills at Indian Springs, Kensington, Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair, Stony Creek, and Willow Metroparks.
