Earth Day is Every Day at the Metroparks
April 23, 2025
By: Samantha Volz, Park Interpreter
For the past 55 years, the world has celebrated Earth Day. The Huron-Clinton Metroparks not only celebrate on April 22nd, but all year round with a variety of resources, events and activities designed to educate, encourage action, and make positive changes for the environment. How do you plan on celebrating Earth Day with the Metroparks this year?

Learn and Explore at the Metroparks
The Metroparks have numerous opportunities available to learn more about the natural spaces in Southeast Michigan in person and virtually. Our interpretive centers are open year-round with miles of nature trails, wildlife viewing and educational programs. Visitors will have the chance to see up close what the Metroparks are doing to manage our natural resources, from “Let it Grow” zones, invasive species management to prescribed burns.
Learn from home or on your phone by catching up on our Metroparks Blog. We post new blog posts and videos weekly about happenings in the Metroparks.
Check out our new “Climate Classroom” where you can find links to climate action focused workshops, events and more.

Participate in Upcoming Events at the Metroparks
Join us for our first Earth Week Virtual Happy Hour for a weeklong celebration spotlighting different aspects of the Metroparks’ Climate Action Plan with themed mocktails.
In May tour the newly installed rain garden at Lake Erie Metropark while discussing the importance of rain gardens and native plants in your space. Stay after the tour and participate in the Native Plant Sale and Swap – supplied by Wildtype Native Plant Nursery.

Volunteer your time cleaning up the parks at one of the many Cleanup Events scheduled throughout the month of April.
4/26 – Lake Erie Metropark
4/27 – Lake St. Clair Metropark
Get Involved and Take Action
Looking to get involved and stay active throughout the seasons, become a Metroparks volunteer! Volunteers at the Metroparks can participate in numerous volunteer events and activities. During Volunteer Workdays, work alongside the Natural Resources team to remove invasive species throughout the parks. Additional volunteer opportunities can be found here.

While visiting your Metroparks, follow these guidelines to keep our parks clean:
- Practice Leave No Trace principles while in the parks
- Clean up after your event or gathering
- Keep pets out of prohibited areas
- Do not feed the wildlife
- Have fun while following the rules!
