Nature at Night
Stony Creek Metropark after dark offers new opportunities for outdoor nature exploration. Each month, meet our naturalists at the nature center for a short presentation and then we’ll head out in the dark. From owls to bats to simply enjoying the moon, we’ll celebrate nature’s night shift.
March 14 – Nature at Night: Woodcock Walk-7 pm
March 28 – Nature at Night: Salamanders & Frogs-7 pm
August 8 – Nature at Night: Fireflies- 8 pm
September 12 – Nature at Night: Spiders After Dark- 7 pm
September 26 – Nature at Night: Bat & Moth- 7 pm
November 14 – Nature at Night: Owls- 5 pm
December 19 – Nature at Night: Final Fall Nights- 5 pm
What to Expect:
This program is entirely outdoors. The time, approximately 75 minutes, will be spent on a leisurely walk with frequent stops. Expect to walk from .5 mile to 1.5 miles. The planned path surface is gravel and occasionally steep. Trails may be icy, snowy, or muddy. For maximum enjoyment, some of our program time will require all participants to patiently remain still, quiet and listen closely. Participants may bring flashlights with a red filter, and flashlights with filters will be provided.
