From reunions to graduations to birthdays – and more – the Metroparks offer Southeast Michigan’s widest variety of picnic shelters and plenty of nearby park amenities, like beaches, pools, playgrounds and athletic fields and courts. At our locations, you can bring your own food or catering, add bounce houses, live music and much, much more.
Meetings & Retreats
The Metroparks also plays host to a diversity of private events each year. Hold an outdoor team building exercise somewhere among our woods and water. Or conduct a corporate retreat at one of our nature center classrooms or indoor facilities. They’re fully equipped to handle all your meeting needs. And our staff has the experience it takes to help you make your event a success.

Indian Springs Metropark, Environmental Discovery Center
The Environmental Discovery Center boasts floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a picturesque pond bring the great outdoors into your event. Guests can explore the walkways and decks, or just enjoy the panoramic view. With seating capacity for up to 150, table and chairs, a sound system and more, this space can accommodate your needs.

Lake St. Clair Metropark, Thomas Welsh Activity Center
The Activity Center has large expansion windows bring the outside in, creating a unique space. Guests can enjoy the natural views of the park and Lake St. Clair. With seating capacity for up to 300, tables and chairs, private restrooms, stage and kitchen, this space is ready for any type of event.

Classroom Rentals
If a classroom is more appropriate for your event. We have you covered! The Kensington Metropark Nature Center has classrooms available to rent. With different sizes, views and amenities a classroom can provide the right space and close proximity to things to do for your guests, like hikes on trails.
Kensington Metropark Nature Center Classroom
The Great Blue Heron Classroom can accommodate seating for approximately 50 people and is wheelchair accessible. The building is heated and air-conditioned. Tables and chairs are available, and it offers a small kitchen with refrigerator.

Group Camp
Bring your scout or organized youth group out to camp near the Clinton or Huron Rivers, and under the stars at your Metroparks. Overnight and day camping is available year-round at Hudson Mills, Kensington, Lower Huron and Wolcott Mill Metroparks.
Advanced reservations and a permit are required. To book your group’s stay please contact the Metropark Office of the park you are interested in reserving.

Nature Center Birthday Parties
Kensington Metropark Nature Center
Celebrate a special birthday at the Kensington Metropark Nature Center. Create a unique birthday party experience by having an animal encounter for the guest of honor. Bring in your snacks, cake and activities to round out a special birthday celebration.

Birthday party packages are available at the Lake Erie Metropark Marshlands Museum and Oakwoods Metropark Nature Center! These include private classroom rental, interpretive program and a craft or game.

- $50 classroom rental – Includes 3-hour block of time, either 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. or 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
- $4 per child – minimum charge for 10 kids ($40) and maximum charge for 25 kids ($100)

FAQ
Events that are expecting more than 50 people in attendance are considered a large group event and require a permit. Permits for Large Group Events must be obtained at least four weeks prior to the event. Requirements for obtaining permits are available at the park office, and are subject to both individual park and local township review and approval. Other event elements that require permits are bounce house and inflatables as well as amplified sound such as DJs, loudspeakers, etc. Completion of a Special Event Form will be required and is available by contacting the park office.
Special pricing consideration is available for non-profit organizations.
Does the Metroparks have an on-site caterer or work with a preferred vendor list?
We do not have on-site catering available. There are concession areas available at some parks, often close to park amenities. We also do not have a preferred vendor list. You are welcome to work with the caterer and other vendors of your choice.
Is alcohol allowed at the Metroparks?
Only beer and wine may be consumed in picnic areas or areas designated by the Metroparks. Alcoholic beverages may be permitted in accordance with Rules & Regulations of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission at indoor event venues. No person shall possess any alcoholic beverages in any park or park area during times when notice is posted of such closure.
Is there power available?
Depending on the location within the park you are looking at for your event, there might be power. Many picnic shelters have power outlets available. Be sure to ask park staff about your location when inquiring further.
Can I have a bounce house or inflatable at my event?
Inflatables are permitted in the Metroparks only when the following criteria is met:
- Prior approval from the Metroparks.
- Provide a certificate of insurance naming HCMA as an additional insured.
What are your insurance requirements?
Insurance requirements vary depending on the type of the event and activities planned. When inquiring about or booking your event, a Metroparks staff member can answer your specific insurance questions.
Do my event attendees need to pay the park entrance fee?
Yes, your event participants or guest will need to pay the daily entrance fee, unless they already have a Metroparks annual pass. However, for weddings that use one of our two indoor venues, the daily entry fee is rolled into your package, but is only valid for the day of your event. Any park visits prior to your wedding will require paying the entrance fee.

Boat Rental
Motor City Canoe & Kayak Rental
Want to paddle but don’t have your own canoe or kayak? Motor City Canoe & Kayak Rental is here to help, with rentals available daily. Start your journey at Lower Huron, Willow or Oakwoods Metropark and see where the river takes you. Rentals available daily from May through August, weather and river conditions permitting.
Disc Golf
Toss your best shot at our challenging 18-hole Willow Disc Golf Course. Play along a flat terrain through gorgeous parkland. The course begins near the Acorn Picnic Area. Bug spray during the warmer months is highly recommended.
An Annual Bag Tag, which gives unlimited play at all Metropark courses, or a Daily Wristband is required to play.

Annual Bag Tags are available for purchase at the Willow Metropark Office. Annual Bag Tags are also valid for the disc golf courses at Kensington, Hudson Mills, and Stony Creek Metroparks.
Golf
Pack up your clubs and head on over for a round of golf at Willow Metropark golf course. Our 6,394-yard, par-71 course features long, narrow tree-lined fairways, water on nine holes and six sharp doglegs that will test your skills. Find the course entrance east of I-275 on Huron River Drive, just north of West Road.
Food and beverages are available. Senior rates are available for guests age 55 and older. Junior rates are available for guests age 20 and younger. Tee times can be made up to 10 days in advance. An accessible golf cart is available for use at each golf course, please call 24 hours in advance to reserve.
Pool
The Willow Pool is an ideal place to cool down when the weather heats up. Glide down the family waterslide, play a game of water basketball, enjoy the spray features or just soak in the zero-depth entry pool.
Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 48” need to be accompanied by an adult to ride the slide. A food bar is located near the swimming pool. Hours and availability may vary, please call ahead.
Life jackets are encouraged to increase water safety. Bring your own or borrow one of ours, for FREE! Children and adult life jackets are available on a first come, first served basis at our life jacket station. Please return your borrowed life jacket when you are done using it so others can safely, and responsibly enjoy the water.

Enjoy a day exploring Stony Creek Lake’s waters and shorelines by watercraft. Kayaks, rowboats, paddleboats and character pedal boats are available for rent near the Mount Vernon picnic area.

Terms Of Rental
- A valid drivers license or State issued picture ID is required to rent a boat (school ID’s are not acceptable).
- Motor horsepower, number of persons and weight shown on the Waterways Capacity Tag may not be exceeded.
- Personal flotation devices (life jackets) must be worn by every boat passenger.
- No swimming or diving off boat.
- No alcoholic beverages allowed on rental boats/paddleboards.
- No reservations are taken. Boats are rented on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Weekends are often very busy and waiting lists are used as needed.
- Character pedal boats will not be rented if the wind speed is 10 mph or greater.
Group Rentals
All school and camp groups wishing to rent boats must make prior arrangements with Stony Creek Metropark and have a Metropark release and waiver from liability completed in advance by the parent or guardian of each child. There must also be an appropriate adult-to-child ratio. Please call the Stony Creek Metropark office to make arrangements.
Outboard Motors
You may bring your own outboard motor. The Metroparks do not rent them. Maximum 6-horsepower motor allowed on a 12’ rowboat. Maximum 10-horsepower motor allowed on a 14’ rowboat.
Paddleshack
Located near Eastwood Beach, the Paddleshack has stand up paddleboards, single and double kayaks available for rent.

Last rental of the day occurs 1 hour prior to closing. Rentals returned by 8 p.m. Rentals are weather permitting.

Disc Golf
Play one of the most challenging disc golf courses in Michigan at Stony Creek Metropark. The Buckhorn disc golf course offers two 18 hole courses of championship-level disc golf, complete with serene wetlands, tallgrass prairies, dense thickets and wooded fairways.
The first hole begins adjacent to the Gladeview Picnic Area.

Golf
This 6,928 yard, par 72 course gives an “up north” feel with separated, heavily wooded fairways. Water hazards add to the challenge of this beautiful course.
Food and beverages are available. Senior rates are available for guests age 55 and older. Junior rates are available for guests age 20 and younger. Tee times can be made up to 10 days in advance. An accessible golf cart is available for use at each golf course, please call 24 hours in advance to reserve. Stony Creek Metropark golf course is one of seven regulation Metropark courses in Southeast Michigan.
Water Slide
Head over to Eastwood Beach to fly down our 50-foot tall 230-foot long Quadzilla Slide. This massive four-lane inflatable water slide is a great way to bring a little extra thrill to your beach day. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall.

Canoeing & Kayaking
Take your canoe or kayak out for a journey among the backwaters of the Huron River. Our 1-mile Walk-In-The-Water canoe trail begins behind the Nature Center and takes paddlers among the islands and past scenic shorelines where you might spot ducks, muskrats, swans, mink and white-tailed deer.
If you have a longer trip in mind, the Huron River National Water Trail is the place to be, with canoe camping available at the Walnut Grove Campground located in Lower Huron Metropark, permit required. The Huron River has been designated as the 18th trail of the National Water Trail System, joining a network of nation exemplary water trails from Puget Sound to the Hudson River.
Please note, the Flat Rock Dam portage located downstream of Oakwoods Metropark is temporarily closed at Flat Rock Metal. Alternate portage arrangements should be planned in advance.

Voyageur Canoe
Paddle along the slow-moving waters of the Huron River in our 18 passenger Voyageur canoe, as an interpreter shares a bit of history. Glide along a 1-mile route past picturesque woodlands with a chance to spot a white-tailed deer foraging near the shoreline. The tour is conducted on a 34-foot replica birchbark canoe. Camping
Walnut Grove Campground – Rustic Family Camping
Camp for a few days, a week or even longer at the Lower Huron Metropark Walnut Grove Campground. Twenty-seven rustic campsites are located near the Huron River and can be reserved early May through mid-October. Camping at Walnut Grove brings you closer to everything you love about the Metroparks, including hiking trails, biking trails and the Turtle Cove Family Aquatic Center.
- Annual or Daily vehicle pass is required to enter any Metropark. Remember when staying multiple days, if you leave the park and re-enter, you will need a new daily pass.
- Tents, campers and motor homes are allowed.
- Water and electricity are not available at the campsites.
- Modern restrooms are located within the Walnut Grove Campground.
- A sanitary dump station is available on-site.

Canoeing & Kayaking
Load up your canoe or kayak and paddle along the scenic Huron River at Lower Huron Metropark. The Huron River was recently designated as the 18th trail of the National Water Trail System, joining a network of exemplary water trails from Puget Sound to the Hudson River. It’s filled with great scenery, wildlife and much more.
River access within Lower Huron Metropark can be found at the North Fishing Site and at the East Bend Picnic Area / Group Camp. Downstream access points include the Willow Metropark Big Bend picnic area and the Oakwoods Metropark Cedar Knoll picnic area.
If you plan to paddle further downstream, please note that the portage of the Flat Rock dam requires coordination with Flat Rock Metal, Inc. to unlock the gates. Please call or text ahead (313)268-3993.

The ultimate relief from the summer sun is right here at the Lower Huron Metropark Turtle Cove Family Aquatic Center. Our massive water facility features two waterslides, a lazy river, 300-gallon dumping bucket and zero-depth entry pool.
Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Must be at least 48″ or taller to ride the large waterslides.

Boating
Eight ramps, located near the North Marina along Black Creek, provide easy access to Lake St. Clair. Personal watercraft, windsurfers and sailboards can enter the water at the Daysail launches located near the golf course.
A valid Metroparks daily or annual boat pass, in addition to your vehicle pass, is required. If your boat (canoe, kayak or rowboat) is transported into the park inside or on top of your vehicle, you do not have to purchase a Boat Pass. Vehicle entry fees are also required for follow-up vehicles. Annual Boat Passes can be purchased at any Metropark toll booth or online. Click here to purchase your pass online.
Foot Golf
Experience the up-and-coming game of Foot Golf right here at the Lake St. Clair Metropark par-3 golf course. Foot golf uses the same rules as traditional golf with players trading golf balls and clubs for soccer balls and feet.
Regulation soccer balls can be rented for $2 each at the starter building. No reservations required.

Par-3 Golf
Enjoy a relaxing day on our walker-friendly 18-hole Par-3 Golf Course overlooking beautiful Lake St. Clair. If you don’t have your clubs with you, we have clubs available for a $2 rental fee. Our shop is stocked with tees, balls, hats, and beverages for your convenience.

Squirt Zone Spray Ground

Canoeing & Kayaking
Explore a new route every time you canoe or kayak at Lake Erie Metropark. Paddle along coastal wetlands, river backwaters and downstream along Lake Erie. Our water routes take you through areas not easily accessed by foot and they are teeming with wildlife. Paddlers are encouraged to access the waters using the concrete ramp closest to the restroom building at the boat launch area.
Golf
Spend a day exploring our 6,489-yard, par 72 course surrounded by natural wetlands. This regulation course features gently rolling, bunkered fairways and 20 acres of ponds. Enjoy pristine tee boxes, rolling fairways and immaculate greens while taking in some spectacular views. Great Wave Pool
Escape the hot days of summer and take a plunge into the Great Wave action pool. Hold steady and practice your balance against three-foot waves for hours of fun. Children will enjoy the spray area with ground sprays and dumping water features. Tubes are included in the entry fee on a first-come, first-served basis.

Two competitive disc golf courses are located at Kensington Metropark. Spin on by and try your hand at one or both.
Black Locust Disc Golf Course
Challenge yourself on the Black Locust disc golf course, named for the Black Locust trees found near Martindale Beach. Enjoy two 18-hole courses that feature fairways lined with rolling meadows and thick woods. The 18th hole, on the north course, also features a basket in a tree stump for added fun.
The Black Locust disc golf course is located off a gravel lot across from the Martindale Beach parking lot. The course is open year-round during park hours and is not lit at night.

Toboggan Disc Golf Course
The Toboggan Course is located across the road from the Maple Beach parking lot and has been thrilling players and fans for decades. Originally a temporary course for the 2000 Worlds, it has been the official course of the U.S. Amateur Disc Golf Championship since 2002 and has been the site of the Great Lakes Open on the Disc Golf Pro Tour since 2018.
The baskets are only in the ground for a short time each year, so try to get a round in when you can. At 10,210 feet, this champion-level par 63 course has a mix of large elevation changes and tight fairways that will test every shot in your bag. Bring a spotter because it has long holes and punishing rough.

The Kensington Metropark course boasts varied terrain, tree-lined fairways and abundant wildlife. Open fairways and fast greens allow both novice and experienced golfers the opportunity to challenge and improve their games.

Island Queen
Enjoy a leisurely cruise on Kent Lake aboard the Island Queen III. You’ll be charmed by nature’s sights and sounds as you tour the lake on this 46-passenger pontoon boat. Capture panoramic vistas as the boat meanders around the lake, among islands and bays, and hear stories about the history of Kensington Metropark. Chance upon mute swans, Canada geese, mallard ducks and cormorants and even an occasional osprey. And on a summer’s day, look for turtles basking in the sun.
The Island Queen III is located at Boat Rental. Special rates apply for seniors and children 12 and under. Pets are prohibited on the Island Queen.

Splash ‘n’ Blast
Find the ultimate relief from the warm, summer sun and loads of fun for the entire family at our Splash ’n’ Blast. Coast down two, 240-foot twisted water slides or romp through the spray ground with palm trees, serpents and cannons that spray water.
Waterslide riders must be 42” tall or taller.

An additional fee of $4 per person is charged for 76 people or more: maximum capacity of 500 people. Reservations for private rentals are made through the Park Office 810-227-8910. A minimum of 10 days notice is required for rental of the Splash ‘n’ Blast. The Splash ‘n’ Blast will not be available for private rental on Memorial Day, the week of July 4th and Labor Day.
Environmental Discovery Center
Explore the diversity of Southeast Michigan’s native habitats at Indian Springs Metropark’s Environmental Discovery Center (EDC). This center is a gateway into the complexity and beauty of prairies, wetlands and woods. The EDC features 60 acres of restored native prairie ecosystems. The award-winning building also contains classrooms, a biology lab and a 150-person event room used for a variety of public or private events. The interactive exhibits feature the diversity of the park’s ecosystems, including an underwater pond viewing room.

Our 6,688-yard, par-71 course features rolling fairways and undulating greens and is regarded as one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in the area. Test your skills on the notorious par-5 13th hole that plays 602 yards from the tips.

Spray ‘n’ Play
Young children will enjoy the splash pad located within Indian Springs Metropark’s Spray ‘n’ Play. Get soaked by ground sprays, water cannons, and a dumping bucket. The spray park is located adjacent to other play features including a rock-climbing wall, cargo net, a fenced maze, a painted labyrinth, spinning buckets, and a hillside slide.

Pack up your discs and come out to Hudson Mills Metropark to play our two 24-hole disc golf courses. Our courses are recognized as some of the best in the state and are perfect for players of all skill levels. Disc golf is open when the park is open, courses are not lit at night.
Original Course
The Original Course is slightly hilly with a mixture of open and tight wooded fairways.
Monster Course
The Monster Course is similar but significantly longer.

An Annual Bag Tag, which gives unlimited play at all Metroparks courses, or a daily wristband is required to play. Annual Bag Tags are valid for the disc golf courses at Hudson Mills, Kensington, Stony Creek, and Willow Metroparks.
Disc rentals are available at the Activity Center.
Golf
Stop by for a round on our 6,560-yard, par-71 course. Known for its quick greens and wooded back-to-back par-5s on the back nine, this course will keep you on your toes. Enjoy the abundant wildlife as you play this scenic course.
Food and beverages are available. Senior rates are available for guests age 55 and older. Junior rates are available for guests age 20 and younger. Tee times can be made up to 10 days in advance. An accessible golf cart is available for use at each golf course, please call 24 hours in advance to reserve. Hudson Mills Metropark golf course is one of eight Huron-Clinton Metropark courses in Southeast Michigan.
